Welcome to the monthly update for the residents and communities of the Birstall, Wanlip & Broadnook Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This Newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
Road safety
Officers have received concerns relating to road safety issues across Birstall, Wanlip and Broadnook, including reports of speeding, careless driving, and other antisocial vehicle use. Neighbourhood Officers are working proactively with Roads Policing colleagues and partner agencies to identify problem locations, address concerns raised by the community, and improve safety for all road users.
Targeted patrols are being conducted at locations identified through community reports, intelligence, and collision data. Officers are carrying out speed enforcement activity, engaging with drivers where appropriate, and taking positive action against those whose manner of driving places others at risk. Patrols also provide reassurance to residents and help deter dangerous and inconsiderate driving behaviour.
Engagement has taken place with local residents, schools, community groups and parish councils to better understand concerns and identify emerging issues. Officers continue to provide road safety advice and promote responsible driving standards, particularly around residential areas, schools, pedestrian crossing points and routes frequently used by cyclists.
This activity will continue through intelligence-led patrols, speed enforcement operations, community engagement and partnership working to improve road safety, reduce offending, and provide reassurance to residents across Birstall, Wanlip and Broadnook.
Local Officer Drop In's will also continue, giving members of the public the opportunity to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss local priorities.
Youth-Related Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)
In response to the wider concerns, targeted high‑visibility patrols have been conducted during peak times, alongside engagement with local businesses and young people involved. Intelligence has been reviewed to identify repeat locations and individuals, with CCTV examined where available. Partnership working has taken place with the local authority and youth services to support early intervention and longer‑term problem solving.
Local Officer Drop In's and Foot Patrols are also taking place in affected areas to provide opportunities for the public to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss ongoing issues.
This work will continue through sustained patrols, ongoing engagement and monitoring, with escalation through appropriate ASB powers where thresholds are met. Further partnership activity and community reassurance will remain in place to reduce repeat incidents and manage ongoing concerns.
Residential Burglaries (across Birstall, Wanlip & Broadnook)
There has been a slight increase in reports of Residential Burglary across Birstall, Wanlip and Broadnook. Neighbourhood Officers are working proactively to identify offenders, develop intelligence, and provide reassurance to residents through targeted patrols and engagement activity.
As we move into the Autumn and Winter months, with darker nights and reduced daylight hours, residents are encouraged to take simple steps to protect their homes. Officers are providing crime prevention and security advice, including ensuring doors and windows are secured, using external lighting where available, keeping valuables out of sight, and making properties appear occupied when unattended.
High-visibility patrols are being conducted in areas affected by recent offences, particularly during periods identified through crime pattern analysis as presenting a higher risk. These patrols are designed to deter offenders, reassure the public, and identify suspicious behaviour at an early stage. Officers will continue to make use of intelligence submissions, CCTV opportunities, witness accounts, and partnership working to support investigations and identify those responsible.
Neighbourhood Officers are also engaging with residents, Neighbourhood Watch groups, local councils, and partner agencies to promote home security measures and encourage the prompt reporting of suspicious activity. Local Officer Drop In's and community engagement events will continue across the area, providing opportunities for residents to discuss concerns directly with officers and receive tailored crime prevention advice.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity, unfamiliar vehicles acting suspiciously in residential areas, or individuals attempting to gain access to properties is encouraged to report it to police at the earliest opportunity. Prompt reporting remains vital in helping officers prevent offences and bring offenders to justice.
